What to Expect
Whether it’s your first time coming to counselling or you’ve done counselling in the past, it’s a big step to book a first session.
It’s normal to feel nervous, hesitant, or daunted at first. However, while counselling can be difficult at times, it can also bring many expected and unexpected positive changes and can empower you to create the life you want.
In our work together you can expect warmth, empathy, acceptance, trust, and care. No matter what you are feeling, you can expect to be accepted as you are. I aim to create a welcoming, safe, and supportive space for you to explore your experiences in counselling.
My Approach to Counselling
I believe you are the expert on your own life, and while I will offer suggestions that I think may be helpful, I never assume I know you or your experiences better than you do.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities to create an integrative therapeutic approach that is tailored to your goals and needs.
Therapies and practices I draw from include:
Somatic Transformation
Emotion-focused therapy (EFT)
Self-compassion practices
Trauma-informed practices
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Parts work/Ego State Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT)
Parts work
Attachment theory
Anti-oppressive practices
Social justice approaches
Intersectional feminist therapy
